Recently Completed: Something New, Something Blue

For a family of five in Arlington, Virginia, the goal was simple: create a kitchen that could accommodate the way they live. With varying schedules and a family that cooks often, the space needed to allow everyone to comfortably move around and gather.

By clearly communicating their priorities for the new space, Principal Shawna Dillon was able to design a kitchen that fit their desires.

A key design feature is the central island with an integrated dining table, inspired by the client’s own experience growing up with the kitchen as a gathering place. The new layout provides abundant countertop space and improves traffic flow between cooking, dining and everyday activities.

Incorporated into the island are undercounter refrigerator drawers, making drinks and snacks easily accessible and allowing the family to move through the space without crowding one another.

Blue is carried throughout the home, making Midnight Blue Matte Lacquer a natural choice and a bold accent against the lighter kitchen. Tremiti Grey Matte Lacquer paired with Tobacco Walnut Tech Materic adds warmth and depth to the overall palette.

The clients’ clear vision, paired with the designer’s expertise, resulted in a space that feels both functional and distinctly their own.
